Cookies and Tracking on humblebadge.com
Last Updated: May 1 2026
This page explains what cookies and tracking technologies humblebadge.com uses — and, more importantly, what it does not. It is part of our Privacy Policy.
The short version
humblebadge.com does not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics that follow you across the web. We use one strictly-necessary session cookie (to make the waitlist form work) and a privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics tool that we host ourselves.
We don't show a cookie consent banner because we don't set the kinds of cookies that require consent under EU, UK, California, or Brazil privacy law.
What we actually use
1. A strictly-necessary session cookie
When you visit humblebadge.com, our web framework (Bottle.py) sets a single session cookie. This cookie:
- Is required for basic functionality, including securely processing waitlist signups
- Is a "first-party" cookie — set by humblebadge.com, not by any other domain
- Does not contain personal information about you
- Expires when you close your browser session
- Is exempt from consent requirements under Article 5(3) of the EU ePrivacy Directive and equivalent provisions in the UK, California, and Brazil because it is "strictly necessary" for a service you've requested
You cannot disable this cookie and still use the website's interactive features (such as joining the waitlist), but you can clear it from your browser at any time.
2. Self-hosted, cookieless analytics
We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we run ourselves on Amazon Web Services. Unlike Google Analytics or similar tools, Umami:
- Does not use cookies of any kind
- Does not assign you a persistent identifier
- Does not store your IP address (it is hashed and discarded after a daily aggregation)
- Does not share data with third parties
- Does not track you across other websites
- Does not collect personally identifiable information
What we do see is aggregate, anonymous information: how many people visited each page, what country they were roughly in, what general kind of device they used (mobile vs. desktop), and what page referred them to ours. We use this to understand whether our marketing pages are working and to spot broken links.
Because Umami is fully under our control and doesn't transmit data to any third party, no separate consent or disclosure beyond this page is required.
What we do not use
To set expectations clearly, humblebadge.com does not use any of the following:
- Google Analytics or other Google tracking products
- Facebook Pixel, Meta Audience Network, or any Meta tracking
- Twitter/X, LinkedIn, TikTok, or other social media tracking pixels
- Hotjar, FullStory, or other session-replay tools
- Advertising networks of any kind
- Cross-site tracking cookies
- Browser fingerprinting techniques
- Embedded YouTube, Vimeo, or other video players that set cookies
- Embedded social media timelines or widgets
- Live chat or customer support widgets that track sessions
- A/B testing platforms
If we ever add any of these in the future, we'll update this page, update our Privacy Policy, and — where required by law — show you a consent prompt before they activate.
Your choices
- Block all cookies. Most browsers let you block cookies in settings. If you do this, the waitlist form on our site will not work, but the rest of the site will be readable.
- Use private browsing mode. Cookies set in private/incognito windows are deleted when you close the window.
- Use a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. Some browsers (Brave, Firefox with extensions) and operating systems can send a GPC signal indicating you don't want your data sold or shared. Because we don't sell or share personal data, your GPC signal is automatically honored.
- Use Do Not Track (DNT). We don't engage in any cross-site tracking, so a DNT header doesn't change anything about how we handle your visit, but we respect the spirit of the request.
A note on the iOS app
This page covers humblebadge.com only. The HumbleBadge iOS app does not use cookies (cookies are a web-browser concept). Our Privacy Policy describes what data the iOS app collects and how it's handled.
